How do I replace my 5 Watt Radio battery?Updated 4 months ago

Your radio is designed to be recharged via USB-C in the field. That way, you can use one universal power bank or solar charger to recharge all of your electronics! If you need to remove your battery for any other reason, check out the following steps:

  1. Find the Correct Screwdriver:
    • Use a Phillips head screwdriver, size PH1, to remove all 5 screws.
    • If you purchased your 5 Watt Radio before January 18, 2024, use a Phillips PH1 screwdriver to remove the 2 gator clip screws, and then use a T6 star driver to remove the 3 battery screws.
  2. Remove the screws:
    • Apply firm downward pressure on the screwdriver and turn counter-clockwise (lefty-loosey). It can be helpful to set the radio face-down on a towel or other soft surface to prevent it from sliding around. The battery is under slight tension from the contacts so keeping pressure on the battery itself can help prevent the screws from binding.
  3. Work Gradually:
    • Another way to reduce binding is to unthread each screw 2-3 turns at a time. That way each screw unthreads evenly, and none end up at an angle.
  4. Beware of slipping:
    • If the screwdriver is slipping out of the screw head, and not spinning the screw, do not continue turning. Either apply more downward pressure or stop and try the next screw.

We also have a similar process outlined with photos in our User Manual. For a visual walkthrough, check out our how to video linked here! If you have any trouble removing your 5 Watt Radio's battery, drop us a line at [email protected]
