How can I use a repeater?Updated 4 months ago

In addition to the 22 channels on your 5 Watt Radio, it includes the 8 standard GMRS repeater channels.

These 8 repeater channels are hidden from your channel list by default. To access repeater channels, follow these steps:

  1. Start with the radio OFF.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Minus (CT) and Power buttons while powering on your radio.
  3. Repeater channels are now enabled and can be seen by scrolling past the first 22 channels. These channels are indicated by the REP icon.

Repeaters will either be public, private, or require dues to a local radio club. If the input and output tones are publicly available, the repeater is considered public! A repeater may require an access request, which usually means the owner is simply monitoring access or has usage guidelines they would like to share before you hop on. A private repeater will often not have the frequency or tones publicly available and so you would have to personally know the owner to use it. Most information can be found on MyGMRS.com but local clubs may have their websites and offer additional information like frontrangegmrs.com.
